CIE History & Values

With a passion for both achieving results for our clients AND protecting our complex and fragile environment, the CIE staff understands the value and importance of land assets to Cape Cod’s homeowners, municipalities and developers.

Originally founded by John P. Slavinsky and David C. Sanicki over three decades ago, Cape & Islands Engineering (CIE) has earned a solid reputation for providing expert survey and civil engineering services to Cape Cod landowners developers and municipalities. Currently led by second-generation Professional Land Surveyor and Falmouth native, Matthew C. Costa, the CIE team is well-positioned to meet new challenges and concerns faced by Cape Cod landowners.

With an ongoing investment in new technology and top talent, the CIE team is well prepared to advise clients looking to get the most value and utility from their land assets, while also protecting home and property from the effects of a changing climate.

Cape Cod’s rising flood plain, coastline erosion, and nitrogen from septic systems polluting groundwater, waterways, and wetlands has resulted in a regulatory landscape can be challenging and confusing for homeowners to navigate.

CIE’s sweet spot is in guiding our clients through these challenging land use issues. By working smarter, by thinking out-side-the-box, by using the latest technology, by leveraging our experience and local relationships, and by treating people with respect, we can create the most value possible for clients. This is what distinguishes us from other local firms.
